As an independent self-starter he has the discipline to follow through on every lead that comes across his desk, and the organizational and planning skills that go with it.

William Acker of Miami is a successful sales representative for an automotive parts distributor. He has been at the same company for several years now, and says that it's a job he was made for.
Since graduating from high school, he has become increasingly concerned with social issues, especially the question of homelessness. But it isn't a matter of wanting to give back to the community, as important as that is.
"It's personal for me," says William Acker of Miami. "One of my best friends growing up – he dropped out of sight not long after we got out of high school. None of us saw him for more than a year. We finally found out that he had some kind of breakdown – I still don't know the details on that – and had been living on the streets for most of the time he was missing."
Once he learned what was happening with his high school friend, William Acker of Miami and a group of old classmates went into action and got their friend the help that he needed. But the experience was a real eye-opener: it taught him that the homeless can happen to almost anyone. "All it takes is a run of bad luck," he says.
More than six hundred thousand people are homeless in the United States at any given time, says William Acker of Miami. "That is just beyond belief," he says. "That's like saying the entire population of Boston is homeless." While he knows that no single person can fix the problem, he has made it his mission to get as many people interested in the issue as he can. He makes regular donations to homeless shelters and devotes one weekend each month to volunteering at a soup kitchen not far from his home. And while he is sorry for the troubles that his old high school friend endured, he says his activism on this issue wouldn't have happened otherwise.
